Odyssey – reported speech: real

The long narrative speeches of the Odyssey (esp. books 9-12, but also books 4, 14 and 15) contain a good deal of reported speech. No less than 114 reported speeches of the “real” type are embedded in direct speech narratives, an additional 9 (also included in this table) are embedded in the indirectly rendered performance of Demodocus in book 8.
